Dr Rubens Onofre Nodari
was born in 1951 in Brazil. Following his BSc in agronomy from the University of Passo Fundo, he completed his MSc again on Agronomy at the Federal University of Rio Gande do Sul. He then obtained his PhD in Genetics from the University of California. Dr Nodori taught undergraduate courses at UFSC on Plant breeding and Introduction to Biotechnology. Since 1998, he is the member of the Graduate Program Plant Genetic Resources Graduate Teaching courses at UFSC on "Population Genetics and Genetic Conservation". Between 2003 and 2008 Dr Nodari was the Manager of Genetic Resources of Division of Conservation of Biodiversity, a department of the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment. Also between 2003 and 2007, he was the Member of the National Biosafety Committee (CTNBio). Dr Nodari's core area of interests include; Organisation of the genetic variability of natural population; Collecting, characterisation and conservation of plant genetic resources; Genomic mapping and plant breeding; and Biosafety of genetically modified organisms.
