He has been shipping Certified Organic Soybeans to Europe since 1983, incorporating Manna International in 1985.
His primary customer, Alpro, requested that he develop a traceability and segregation system for Non GMO soybeans in 1995. This system was developed and implemented with farmers and elevators in Ontario Canada and he shipped the first vessel load in 1996.
The system was fully functional the following year and Manna International Inc. became one of the first in the world, if not the first, to ship fully traceable guaranteed Non GMO soybeans in bulk.
Originally shipping by bulk vessel Manna International now ships via container. From the first shipment in 1996 until the last shipment last week they have always shipped to 0.1% tolerance, and to date have not had any shipments over that tolerance to the credit of the elevators and farmers they work with.
Gerry has stayed at the forefront of the Non GMO issue and continually strives to understand the needs of his customers and their markets as he balances that with the farming sector and the unique challenges they face in this changing marketplace.
